Mural Rescue: 415 M Street

Jewish Historical Society, DC

Goal | Raise communal awareness and financial support to rescue a threatened religious artifact from demolition.

This conservation project rescued the original elements of Washington, DC's only known synagogue mural from a building undergoing renovation at 415 M Street, NW. In my role, I managed access, documentation and conservation work with the property owner and conservators, oversaw press relations, and coordinated fundraising. The project raised over $20,000 within a few weeks thanks to coverage in local and national media. The pieces will be presented in a future museum of DC Jewish history.
